Embedding activated carbon nanospheres into polymer-derived porous carbon networks to boost electrocatalytic oxygen reduction

Abstract

An acidification-assisted assembly strategy is presented for embedding activated carbon nanospheres into polymer-derived porous carbon networks to form a carbon heterostructure with an ultrahigh surface area of 2042 m2 g−1. The heterostructure, only containing elements of C and O, exhibits remarkably enhanced oxygen reduction activity, comparable to that of commercial Pt/C.
