Symmetry-Reduction Enhancement of Nitrate Removal on Record-Breaking Layered Yttrium Hydroxide Adsorbents
Abstract
We report that the layered yttrium hydroxide material LYH-Cl exhibits a record-breaking nitrate adsorption capacity of 44.56 ± 0.17 mg/g in neutral water. A comprensive study involving multinuclear (89Y, 35Cl, and 79Br) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) and other techniques reveals that the reduction of crystal symmetry is responsible for the doubled adsorption capacity and adsorption rate constant of LYH-Cl compared to its analog of LYH-Br.
