Protection against a wide UV wavelength range by Bragg reflection from polycrystalline colloidal photonic crystals

Abstract

Polycrystalline colloidal crystals, that formed in a 50 μm-thick cell, blocked ultraviolet (UV) light of 290–400 nm, regardless of the incident angle, while maintaining transparency in the visible light region. These crystals have the potential to be employed in effective UV-protection products against the sun.
