Synthesis of o-isopentenylphenols from 2,2-dimethylchromans by cleavage with boron trichloride

Abstract

Cleavage of 2,2-dimethylchromans with boron trichloride yields chloroisopentyl phenols which can be dehydrochlorinated to the isopentenylphenols.
