Synthesis of deoxysugars and of deoxynucleosides from diol thiocarbonates

Abstract

Catalysed reduction of diol thiocarbonates with tributyltin hydride followed by appropriate alkaline hydrolysis affords a convenient synthesis of 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-deoxysugars and of 2′- and 3′-deoxynucleosides.
