Bridging by carbonyl vs. halide ligands: X-ray crystal structure of [NBu4n]2[Pd2Cl4(µ-CO)2]
Abstract
The dimeric d9 PdI dianion [Pd2Cl4(CO)2]2– is shown to have two bridging carbonyl ligands both in the solid state and in solution by X-ray structure analysis and i.r. spectroscopy; this is in contrast with a large number of d8 di- and polymeric metal carbonyl halide complexes where the halide ligands are bridging.
