Reaction of tellurium hexafluoride with ethylene glycol and other polyhydric alcohols
Abstract
Tellurium hexafluoride reacts with ethylene glycol under a range of experimental conditions to yield the compounds F5TeO·[CH2]2·OTeF5, cis-(·O·[CH2]2·O·)TeF4, cis- and trans-(·O·[CH2]2·O·)2TeF2, and (·O·[CH2]2·O·)3Te. Reactions with other polyhydric alcohols, e.g., HO·[CH2]3·OH, HO·CH2·CH(Me)·OH, HO·[CH2]4·OH, HO·[CH2]10·OH, HO·CH2·CH(OH)·CH2·OH, MeC(CH2OH)3, and C(CH2OH)4 have also been investigated and the properties of the products are discussed.
