Electronic control of the co-ordination mode of an alkyne to a trimetallic cluster; X-ray crystal structure of Os3(CO)732(⊥)-PhC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)(Ph2PCH2PPh2)

Abstract

Treatment of the unsaturated triosmium cluster Os3(µ-H)(CO)8{µ-Ph2PCH2P(Ph)C 6H4} with diphenylacetylene leads to the formation of Os3(CO)7(PhC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)(Ph2PPh2), in which the alkyne ligand is bonded in a µ32(⊥) mode, as shown by an X-ray crystal structure determination.
