Mimetic biomineralization matrix using bacterial cellulose hydrogel and egg white to prepare various morphologies of CaCO3†
Abstract
An original bidirectional infiltration method exploiting the co-actions of bacterial cellulose hydrogel and egg white proteins serves to simulate a natural biomineralization matrix. Different egg white concentrations lead to various CaCO3 morphologies, which are determined by multiple factors, including the diffusion rate, soluble organic matrix concentration, particle size, surface energy and crystalline composition.
