Thermodynamic and kinetic destabilization in LiBH4/Mg2NiH4: promise for borohydride-based hydrogenstorage

Abstract

The reversible LiBH4/Mg2NiH4 combined hydride system for hydrogen storage displays a concerted dehydrogenation reaction beginning at 250 °C with significantly low enthalpy (ΔH = 15.4 ± 2 kJ mol−1 H2) and entropy (ΔS = 62.2 ± 3 J K−1 mol−1 H2).
