Supramolecular polymerization and bulk properties relationship in ester-functionalized N-annulated perylenediimides

The self-assembly and bulk properties of NPDIs 1–4 are reported. In solution, increasing the length of the tether changes the mechanism from cooperative (1–3) to isodesmic (4). Bulk studies show an odd-even effect depending on the linker.

Cyclic ether and anhydride ring opening copolymerisation delivering new ABB sequences in poly(ester-alt-ethers)

The synthesis of poly(ester-alt-ethers) is achieved by controlled ring-opening copolymerizations of commercial anhydrides and epoxides using a Zr(IV) catalyst. The catalysis shows unusual ABB monomer sequence selectivity and polymer properties depend upon both the monomers and the sequence.

Non-fibril amyloid aggregation at the air/water interface: self-adaptive pathway resulting in a 2D Janus nanofilm

A non-classical pathway of full-length amyloidogenic proteins assembled at the air–water interface is discovered. The brick-packing of self-adaptive plate-like oligomers resulted in a protein-based 2D Janus nanofilm with a high Young's modulus.

Thermoswitchable catalysis to inhibit and promote plastic flow in vitrimers

We show that weaker acid catalysis has profound effects on the dynamicity of vinylogous urethane based polymer networks. Moreover, the dynamicity could be adjusted by changing electronic and steric parameters in the catalytic environment.

Programmable synthesis of organic cages with reduced symmetry

De novo synthesis of inherently chiral heteracalix[4]aromatics from enantioselective macrocyclization enabled by chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed intramolecular SNAr reaction

N3,O-calix[2]arene[2]triazines, whose inherent chirality arises from one different heteroatom linkage, were synthesized enantioselectively in ee up to 95% from macrocyclization via chiral monophosphoric acid-catalyzed intramolecular SNAr reaction.

Anion-templated synthesis of a switchable fluorescent [2]catenane with sulfate sensing capability

We describe sulfate-templated synthesis of an electroneutral catenane capable of strong and selective binding of anions in highly competitive solvents. Sulfate is a pH-switchable template enabling large-amplitude motions of the interlocked structure.
