Diphosphaenones: beyond the phosphorus analogue of enones

N-heterocyclic vinyl (NHV) substituted diphosphaenones 3a,b [R–P[double bond, length as m-dash]P–C(O)–R, R[double bond, length as m-dash]NHV] have been isolated and crystallographically characterized. They not only exhibit a planar trans P[double bond, length as m-dash]P–C[double bond, length as m-dash]O configuration, but also show conjugated 1,4-addition.
