Spectroscopically labelled hydroxylamino-triazine (BHT) siderophores toward the quantification of iron(III), vanadium(V) and uranium(VI) hard metal ions

The first BHT luminescent siderophore-type ligand has been prepared. Coordination of the selective ligand with hard metal ions, FeIII, VV and UVI, quenches the emitted light permitting the quantification of metal ions at nM concentrations.

Influence of the secondary ligand, phenanthroline, on the antioxidant and pro-oxidant and cytotoxic effects of the oxidovanadium(IV)/naringin complex

Replacement of phen in [VO(Narg)2] induces greater π electronic delocalization, thus improving antioxidant action. However, due to its lipophilic character, cellular uptake of V is increased, leading to enhanced pro-oxidant and anticancer effects.
