Pyridine-based tricarboxamides: complementary monomers for supramolecular copolymerization with C3-symmetric oligophenylenetricarboxamides
The formation of supramolecular copolymers between complementary chiral tricarboxamides 1 and 2 is investigated. The blocky microstructure of such heteropolymers has been elucidated by applying a co-assembly model. This model predicts the coexistence of large blocks of the homopolymers.

Conformationally enforced planarization of bis[1]benzothieno[1,4]thiazines: a rational design of redox-active fluorophores with increased radical cation stability
Rational design results in conformationally restricted bis[1]benzothieno[1,4]thiazines, being antiaromatic in the crystal with staircase-like packing. BBTTs form stable radical cations at low potentials and are strongly luminescent.

Selective deletion of one carbon atom from C60 through benzylamine mediated reactions
Benzylamine selectively adds to one of the two carbonyl groups on the 9-membered orifice to form an N,O-aminal moiety. Subsequent oxidation and hydrogen atom transfer lead to a decarboxylation process and formation of a nor [59]fullerene derivative.

About this collection
Organic Chemistry Frontiers is delighted to present this collection of articles dedicated to Professor Frank Würthner in celebration of his 60th birthday.
Frank Würthner, the chair professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Würzburg, is a pioneer in the fields of organic dyes, supramolecular chemistry and materials. From 2015 to 2024, Frank served as the Associate Editor of Organic Chemistry Frontiers, making instrumental contributions to the rapid growth of the journal, particularly in his areas.
This themed collection, guest edited by Agnieszka Nowak-Król (University of Würzburg), Gustavo Fernandez (University of Münster) and Florian Beuerle (University of Tübingen), is a tribute to Frank’s outstanding career. It highlights recent significant advances in the broad field of organic chemistry, with a particular focus on functional organic molecules.
More articles will be added as soon as they are published.
